Coach Nevin Reid

My name is Nevin Reid. I am the founder of Power Step Tackling Academy, co-founder of Power Step Football Academy, and the lead coach for Power Step Defensive Line Academy (DLA).

I played defensive end for seven years, from 6th through 12th grade, and received offers to play at the next level from multiple Division II programs as well as several IAA (FCS) schools. I had the discipline, knowledge, and physicality to continue playing, but I was forced to make a decision I hope no athlete ever has to face—walking away from the game they love.

Before 2012, tackling was taught differently than it is today, and I tackled exactly how I was coached. What I believed was simply the grind of the game was later medically defined as concussion syndrome.

My passion for playing in the trenches, "living on the edge" and attacking the ball carrier, has never faded. That passion, combined with my personal experience, is what led me to start Power Step Tackling Academy. My goal is to teach young athletes how to tackle properly and safely, keeping them on the field and in the classroom so they can play the game for as long as they choose.

I have coached defensive ends, edge rushers, outside linebackers, and the defensive line for eight years. Sharing my knowledge with young athletes who strive to be the best they can be is something I am deeply passionate about, which led me to start DLA. By joining forces with Coach Hall to create Power Step Football Academy, our goal is to become the leader in defensive football techniques and skill development for athletes who want to learn the power of the dark side of the game.

I am currently the Tackling Coordinator and Defensive End Coach at Silver Creek High School in Longmont, Colorado.

Coach Hall Edmonds

My name is Hall Edmonds, I am the co-founder of Power Step Football Academy, founder of Linebacker Academy, and lead linebackers coach for LBA.

I am a former student-athlete at the Colorado School of Mines, where I played inside linebacker and competed in two NCAA Division II National Championships. During my time at Mines I was also a part of 3 RMAC championships, as well as 2 super region championship teams.

Prior to Mines, I played at Broomfield High School, where I earned multiple honors including:

3x All-Conference First Team
Conference Defensive Player of the Year
All-State First Team
All-Region First Team

I also represented our country playing for Team USA in international competition for 4 years. I had the honor of competing against Team Canada Ontario and Team Japan, where I lead the team in tackles.

During my youth career, I competed for several organizations including BYFA, Blitz, Pop Warner, and Creek Red Nation. While playing with Pop Warner and Creek Red Nation I had the opportunity to compete against multiple out of state teams and playing in several tournaments around the United States.

Throughout my football journey, I've had the honor of being coached by amazing mentors at every level, ranging from local leaders to former NFL players. From this I gained a deep insight into the technical, physical, and mental demands of playing linebacker at a high level. These experiences have shaped my understanding of the position and inspired me to pass that knowledge onto the next generation.

I am confident that I have the knowledge, leadership, and on-field experience to develop young linebackers into elite, positionally sound athletes prepared to compete at the next level.
